Hrvoje Butković, Scientific Advisor from the Department for European Policies, participated in the kick-off meeting of the project “Empowering Migrant Workers for a Sustainable Future: Upskilling and Reskilling for Green and Digital Jobs – EMERALD”, which was held in Milan on 28-30 April. The EMERALD project will be implemented from April 2025 to October 2027, coordinated by the Soleterre association from Milan and in partnership with IRMO and a dozen other renowned organizations from several European countries. The project deals with the challenges of retraining the European workforce for green and digital jobs, and its focus is on migrant workers. The project promotes the establishment of a public-private cooperation framework for the development of training in sectors that have a high demand for workers with green and digital skills. The project will be piloted in five countries (Italy, Spain, Belgium, Bulgaria and Croatia), and foresees the first application of the established training model in France as early as 2027. At the kick-off meeting researchers were introduced to the project activities of all work packages, the research methodology, as well as responsibilities of individual partners. As part of the kick-off meeting, a visit to the ASLAM training center, located near Milan, was also organized.
